Peace Lutheran Kindergarten is operated by QLECS (Queensland Lutheran Early Childhood Services) situated at Peace Lutheran College and is co-located on the grounds of Peace Lutheran College at Kamerunga. It is nestled in the picturesque hills between Redlynch and Lake Placid on the Barron River, 15 minutes west of Cairns.
The Kindergarten began in 2006 and is a purpose built, double unit, offering an approved Kindergarten program for 44 children (22 per room) with generous sized classrooms and facilities.
Kindergarten eligible children, who turn 4 years old prior to June 30, are given priority with the Kindy year commencing annually in late January.
The Centre is a long day model Kindergarten, whereby parents have an option of 2 to 5 permanent days per week. The Centre is open from 8.00 am until 5.00 pm each day and the Kindergarten Program is delivered within these hours.
Each class room has an Early Childhood Teacher and Assistant, who is guided by the Queensland Kindergarten Curriculum, and the Early Years Learning Framework following the children’s interests and explorations.
The grounds at ‘Peace Kindy’ have grown into a lush tropical setting with children enjoying a large area to play and run, with large shady trees and sails.
The Kindy has relationships and links to the College and community, but is centrally managed by QLECS.
Services covered by the National Quality Framework have been assessed and rated against the seven Quality Areas of the National Quality Standard and the Education and Care Services National Regulations. The assessment and rating process aims to drive continuous quality improvement for services and provide families with better information for making choices about their children’s education and care. The overall rating for a service is determined by the combination of the ratings achieved in each Quality Area.
Each state and territory Regulatory Authority undertakes the assessment and rating process. The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority, ACECQA, is responsible for ensuring consistency in assessment and ratings across Australia, assessing services for the Excellent rating and creating awareness in the sector and community about the assessment and rating process.
